Call Congo
One way to support the North Katanga Conference is to listen to and encourage its leaders. Internet connections are rare in North Katanga, and the internet cafe in Kamina has been down for weeks. Never fear, though, you can just call Congo. That's right--simply pick up your phone and call.We suggest checking your phone plan or buying an intl calling card online first--the best we've found gets 26 min from a $5 card. Here are some people who would be happy to receive a call from you:
(check back often; this list will grow as we collect working phone #s)

Shabana is an amazing young man. He has huge heart and yearns for opportunities to help him reach his potential. The kids at the children’s home look forward to his daily visits; he leads them in songs and games, helps them with their studies, and does all the things good big brothers do. Last summer, Shabana had a vision of a learning garden at the children’s home and convince the young adults at the nearby congregation to help him build it!
Shabana is a great person to call if you want to connect with a youth group in Kamina or communicate with the children at Kamina Children's Home. Ask Shabana to ask the kids to sing for you!

Kayembe Herggie
God has called Kayembe to be a doctor. It is a truth he knows from the depths of his being. Whenever a medical emergency occurs, he leaps into action. The Kamina Project director was amazed the day Kayembe rushed to the far end of a crowded sanctuary to tend to an epileptic; he was at his patient's side before Taylor had even processed that something had happened!
Kayembe had to put his studies on hold and sacrificed his college savings in order to support his many brothers and sisters after his father had a nearly fatal stroke. In fall 2005, Bishop Ntambo awarded him a scholarship to help him continue his studies locally, but Kayembe still struggles to help his family and afford basic school supplies. He longs for the opportunity to study at a better medical school (one with, for example, textbooks) in Kinshasa or outside of Congo.
Call Kayembe at 011 243 812124768 (shares a phone with his family and Shabana).
You can also ask Kayembe to help you speak with his grandmother, the head of The United Methodist Women's sewing cooperative in Kamina and trainer in a women's autofinance and literacy program.
Emmanuel
Emmanual, an active United Methodist, has trained many of the English speakers in the town of Kamina. He's also a great English speaker to call if you want to know more about the progress on United Methodist Committee on Relief initiated cooperative and experimental farming programs in Kamina.

Dr. Rogers Galaxy
Dr. Galaxy is a fun-loving guy who loves making new American friends. Don't let his light-hearted nature fool you; he is the leading doctor in an initiative to eradicate a horrific and disfiguring illness (spread by fly bites) that has blinded the adult populations of entire communities.
Call Rogers at 011 243 816860426 for laughs or to learn more about World Health Organization programs in the region.
Bishop Ntambo Nkulu
Bishop Ntambo is a very busy man who receives many phone calls, so it can take several tries to reach him by phone. He doesn't have a lot of time for chit-chat, but he is the person to go to when you need the official report on a conference project or want to build a formal partnership with the North Katanga Conference.
